Ajax will be interested in Tottenham Hotspur-attacker Steven Bergwijn revitalize as Kamaldeen Sulemana’s transfer bounced off. That is what club watcher Mike Verweij predicts in the football podcast of De Telegraaf.
Ajax director Marc Overmars pulled the plug on a deal with Sulemana, after the Ghanaian dribbler had again asked for extra time to think. The Amsterdammers may switch to Bergwijn, says Verweij stelt. “Perhaps David Neres will leave, then there will have to be a plan B for Sulemana. That has been discussed today, of course Ajax has a shadow list. It is very logical that Steven Bergwijn will come back into the picture.”
Or the Eredivisiechampion has a chance of success remains to be seen. “What is to the disadvantage of Ajax is that Bergwijn has been running like a charm under the new trainer (Nuno Espírito Santo, ed.). Spurs is not yet prepared to let him go.”
Bergwijn exchanged PSV in January 2020 for no less than thirty million euros for Tottenham Hotspur, but after a hopeful start, he was not sure of his place so far. The twelve-time Orange international made 21 appearances in the Premier League last season, thirteen of which as a basic player. He was good for one goal and three assists.
