Ajax has considered Wout Weghorst as a new striker, agent Simon Cziommer announced to Viaplay on Friday evening. The team from Amsterdam are still looking for a new attack leader and now seem to be targeting Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough. “I have spoken to a lot of clubs, including Sven. But it was not that it was done,” said Cziommer.
Weghorst therefore had the clubs to choose, according to Cziommer. The attacker still has a multi-year contract with Burnley, but does not have to count on much playing time with the Premier League doctoral student. TSG Hoffenheim then struck and brought him back to the Bundesliga. Weghorst is rented for one season.
Had ???????? registered for Wout Weghorst? “I did indeed speak to Sven Mislintat, but it was not that it was already done,” said Simon Cziommer. ?? Tune in now: https://t.co/yMktjnIsIe#ViaplaySportNL #ViaplayVoetbal pic.twitter.com/Lie2t6OsUm

Last season, Weghorst was also rented out twice by Burnley. The tall attacker first played in Besiktas’ shirt for a few months, before joining manager Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United. The 23-time international of Orange was told that extending the lease at Old Trafford was not possible. Weghorst then returned to Burnley, which now hires him out again.
Who will become the new striker of Ajax remains uncertain for a while. The team from Amsterdam already has an attack leader in the ranks with Brian Brobbey, but is still looking for a serious competitor. Voetbal International reported this week that Akpom is in the picture. The top scorer of the last Championship season should cost around 17 million euros. Akpom can also count on interest from the Premier League and Ligue 1.
