John van ‘t Schip will make way again as Ajax coach after this season. Het Parool reports that Amsterdam residents are aiming for a ‘younger and more progressive type’ for the future. The local newspaper makes the comparison with Roberto de Zerbi.

The Italian manager was twice too strong for Ajax in the Europa League with Brighton. “The Zerbi is a type of trainer that Ajax would like to have now,” he says Het Parool, which comes with a profile sketch of the new trainer. Offensive and innovative football are on the list, as are improving players, integrating youth and thinking about purchases.
The Zerbi has now outgrown Ajax, that much is clear. “I have a lot of respect for a club with the history of Ajax, but I am very proud to work for Brighton,” he replied diplomatically on Thursday. “I love my players, my club and my fans. I feel very good at the moment, I don’t want to switch.”

Ajax would nevertheless hope for a trainer with De Zerbi’s profile. ‘Someone who still operates a bit on the margins somewhere in the world, but who is already making an impression with a style that suits Ajax. Think of De Zerbi from about two or three years ago,” he says. “Even then I was not asked by Ajax,” he said himself. ‘The Amsterdam search for a type like De Zerbi is ongoing,’ the newspaper emphasizes.
Het Parool previously wrote that there is a good chance that Ajax will work with a foreign trainer, because suitable Dutch candidates are already occupied. Van ‘t Schip will take on a role in technical management after this season.
