Ajax and the Nouri family have agreed on a compensation settlement after more than four years, NOS reports. As a result, no further arbitration proceedings will take place.
The sad story surrounding Nouri is well known: he collapsed on July 8, 2017, when Ajax played a practice match against Werder Bremen. Less than a year later, Ajax director Edwin van der Sar acknowledged that mistakes were made with the treatment of Nouri on the field. As a result, the now 24-year-old Amsterdammer suffered permanent brain damage.
Ajax and the Nouri family then negotiated compensation for a long time, but were unable to reach an agreement. An arbitration case was supposed to end the case. The family filed a lawsuit in January of this year, and the case would be filed in October.
In the end Ajax and the family came out on their own. The US know that the agreement relates to the care of Abdelhak, the lost earning capacity and compensation for immaterial damage in the form of damages. The exact amount that Ajax will pay to the Nouri family is not known.
Nouri’s neurological condition is still the same. He is cared for at home by his relatives, which makes him relatively well. However, the care is still needed any time of the day. Nouri is also able to show emotions: for example, he can laugh, cry and communicate through facial expressions. Nouri is ‘calm, but also alert’, according to the NOS.
