Aix-en-Provence municipal council: the emergency rooms of Aix hospital are expanding and modernizing

Francis Saint-Hubert, the director of the intercommunal hospital center of Aix-Pertuis (Chiap) and Doctor Yves Rimet, president of the establishment medical commission were received, this October 4, by the municipal council of Aix-en -Provence, to present the work that will take place in the emergency room of the establishment in order to increase its reception capacity, improve its operation and install a scanner.

Marie-Pierre Sicard-Desnuelle, deputy mayor, explains what is at stake in this matter: “ This service was built in the 1990s. Since then the city has grown, it has 150,000 inhabitants but its emergencies take care of the 450,000 inhabitants of the Pays d’Aix. Thus, built for 80 patients/day, this site accommodates an average of 130 and up to 200 on certain days. Work was therefore necessary to meet current needs.“. Félix Saint-Hubert expresses his pleasure at being stationed in Aix “ and take the reins of this establishment which has enormous potential” . Stating: “ This is the first time in my career that I have seen a city provide so much support to its hospital establishment “. He recalls that “ a hospital project, above all, is about people. In this sense, we are going to improve the organization and links with other hospital services and all extra-hospital stakeholders and then we are going to improve the premises and equipment. ».

It is up to Doctor Yves Rimet to get to the heart of the matter: “ The installation of a scanner will make it possible to treat patients as quickly as possible and meet the needs of the hospital center. It will also make the work of caregivers easier. It was also necessary to extend the surface area. We achieve this by moving CAP 48 – which receives patients with psychiatric pathologies – a few meters. A box will be dedicated to psychiatric care in the emergency room”. Further specifies that: “a single treatment box area will be created to encourage team sharing. Likewise, nurses in advanced practice – holders of a master’s degree – will have a shared area to manage, under the responsibility of a doctor, to manage entrants. Spaces will open for better consideration of winter episodes thanks to 5 additional boxes “. He also mentions actions carried out “ for better ergonomics because better working conditions are also the guarantee of better patient monitoring».

It is up to Francis Saint-Hubert to talk about the figures: “The cost of the project amounts to 5.5 million euros financed to the tune of 2 million by the regional health agency, 1.5 million euros from the city of Aix, 1 million euros from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and 1 million euros in self-financing from the intercommunal hospital center.

The work should start in the second quarter of 2025. The project architect is Brigitte Galloni, a firm from Aix, and the Beming design office was selected.

Agnès Daures, Aix-en-Partage, left-wing opposition, indicates that her group will vote for this deliberation but deplores: “ This vote comes as the government announces 45 billion cuts in public services and social security and announces that it wants to make savings on hospital expenses. “. MP Marc Pena goes in the same direction. The mayor of Aix, Sophie Joissains reacts: “ I deplore this. Health must be the most protected sector ».
