Ventspils company Aspired has started offering a pocket-sized portable air quality, humidity and temperature sensor to customers around the world Airvalentwhich can be used in the home or office.
The company’s sales and marketing manager Eduards Perkons says that many people do not even think about how much indoor air quality affects a person’s well-being, cognitive abilities, such as perception, attention, memory, and working abilities. CO2 levels are measured in parts per million, or ppm. Outside, in the fresh air, the CO2 level is usually around 300-400 ppm, in well-ventilated rooms – around 500-600 ppm. Optimum CO2 level is up to 1000 ppm. Exceeding it leads to drowsiness and reduced cognitive abilities. Above 1500 ppm, a person already feels quite uncomfortable, but when the CO2 concentration exceeds 2000 ppm, headaches, loss of concentration and attention, rapid heart rate and other problems may occur. An increased level of CO2 also affects the quality of sleep and can contribute to respiratory diseases. If CO2 the indicator exceeds 2000 ppm, it is already a critical limit, but between 1000 and 2000 ppm you have to think about ventilation, emphasizes Perkons.
Aspired representatives have verified this in practice at the world’s largest technology exhibition GITEX Global In Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, where the company, thanks to the support of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency, was able to operate at the Latvian stand, presenting its new product, which has been offered on the market very recently. When starting work in the huge hall, the sensor recorded a normal CO2 level, but already after a couple of hours, when people started feeling sleepy and tired, it was evident that the indicator rose above the norm and was between 1500 and 1900 ppm. In such situations, coffee will not help to maintain alertness – ventilation is necessary.
The product created in Ventspils combines high technology with design. It is developed and also assembled in Ventspils. Air sensors are currently being manufactured in the Ventspils High Technology Park, but at the end of this year the company will move to the new production building on Ganību Street. Currently, the company has more than 20 employees, but the number of employees will increase as production expands.
Airvalent differs from similar products in that it is the smallest in the world – it is a compact pocket-sized device that fits comfortably in the hand and is easy to take with you and use, for example, both at home and at work. The device has a battery that will need to be charged once every 20 days on average.
Airvalent built-in NDIR sensor that ensures high measurement accuracy. The body of the device is made of aluminum, which is the most environmentally friendly solution. “It was important for us to use as few oil products as possible – we also think about the long-term,” says Perkons. For similar products, the body is said to be made of plastic. The case is available in three colors: black, gold and silver. The customer can choose one of the ready-made – currently 45 – protective glass designs according to the design of the house or to his taste. But the protective glass can also be personalized, for example with your company’s logo, as already done by a well-known production company in Ventspils Bucher Municipal. Sensors can also be used as a company corporate gift.
Along with the product, a mobile app has been developed that works both Androidboth iOS in operating systems. It can be downloaded to your phone for free. With the help of the app, it is possible to monitor the operation of the device and change settings, for example, how often the sensor will read data. The standard interval that ensures optimal use of the battery is five minutes, but the interval can be set from one to 15 minutes. You can personalize not only the protective glass, but also the view of the sensor screen using the app. Since people perceive information in different ways, the company has prepared ten possible screen views, from which the customer can choose the one that best suits him and his perception. In the app settings, you can also choose how the sensor will notify you when an elevated CO2 level is reached.
Currently, products manufactured in Ventspils can be purchased on the product’s website airvalent.com, as well as in Latvian, Estonian, Finnish and Lithuanian online stores. Presenting the new sensors at the exhibitions in Riga and Dubai, good reviews have already been received and new collaborations have started. Several copies of the new product were also bought. Thunder emphasizes that the new product is mainly intended for the American and German markets, where customers value personalization and where households use a lot of gas for cooking, which significantly worsens air quality.
