AirTags catch mail thieves | Mac Life

A woman who had been a repeated victim of mail theft decided to take matters into her own hands. She packed a package, addressed it to herself and included her Apple AirTag, reports the Los Angeles Times.

This exact package was promptly stolen. In the USA, it is common practice to leave packages in front of the door, at least in rural areas.

Using the device’s tracking features, the woman was able to pinpoint the exact location of her stolen mail. Police officers called to the scene found not only the victim’s mail, but also items believed to have been stolen from more than a dozen other people.

Technology helps in arresting suspects

The police were able to arrest two suspects and stressed how important it is not to confront suspects directly and not to take the law into one’s own hands. We fully agree with this.

But the technology also has a dark side: Apple is currently facing a class action lawsuit in California because the company allegedly failed to take adequate measures to prevent stalkers from misusing AirTags.

Now it’s your turn

Do you only use the AirTags to find your own items or have you used them for other purposes? Please write your experiences in the comment fields below this message, we are very curious.
