AirTag: waterproof yet easy to open
The first AirTags will now be delivered with many ‘unboxing’ videos and the first teardown as a result. In a fourteen-minute video, the Japanese YouTube channel hits Haruki the AirTag from Apple apart.
The video first shows how to replace the battery of the tracker with a simple action: press the metal part with two fingers and make a circular movement. The button cell battery becomes visible and replaceable. Despite the fact that it is possible to open the AirTag so easily, the accessory remains very water resistant. The device can lie in water of one meter deep for up to thirty minutes.
After removing the battery, the plastic inside of the AirTag will become visible. You can then open this fairly easily with tweezers, for example. The most important components, such as the U1 chip and Bluetooth, are combined in a compact disc.
The most interesting part of the teardown is the speaker, because the AirTag has no speaker holes. The video shows how the housing acts as a kind of sound box. The coil in the center probably plays an important role in sound production and amplification.
