Airports in our area are facing numerous cancellations and delays due to bad weather on the East Coast.
The total number of delays reported today throughout the country already exceeds 11,000 flights and more than a thousand have been cancelled.
This Wednesday, the airports in our area report an improvement, although more than 150 flights have been canceled so far this morning.
More than 400 cancellations and hundreds of delays were reported at the Newark airport on Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration had already warned that the shortage of air traffic controllers could also contribute to flight delays this summer season.

The Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, to whose department the FAA depends, has been crushing the airlines for more than a year. He has accused them of failing to meet reasonable standards of customer service and has suggested that they book more flights than they can handle.
The airlines fight back.
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby blamed a shortage of federal air traffic controllers for last weekend’s massive disturbances at its Newark hub.
“We estimate that more than 150,000 United customers were affected this weekend by issues with FAA personnel and their ability to manage traffic,” Kirby wrote in a memo to employees Tuesday night.
As of early morning, nearly 1,300 flights had been delayed in the United States, according to FlightAware. Cancellations were close to 700 flights.
Cancellations and delays were most severe on the East Coast in the early hours and were rapidly getting worse. The disturbances are expected to spread to the West.
The delays are compounded by thunderstorms that swept through the Northeast on Tuesday. At various times, the Federal Aviation Administration held up flights to New York’s LaGuardia airport and Reagan Washington National and Baltimore-Washington airports near the nation’s capital.
About 6,500 flights were delayed Tuesday and about 1,900 canceled on the East Coast. United Airlines, with a major hub in Newark, New Jersey, canceled about 500 flights or 18% of its schedule, and JetBlue canceled 16% of its flights, according to FlightAware.
It is the storm that precedes the storm.
Travel has risen steadily every year since bottoming out during the pandemic and on Tuesday, the number of people who flew neared 2.4 million, up 11% from last year on the same day, according to the Transportation Security Administration.
Travel is expected to peak on Thursday, with more than 52,500 flights in total, likely the busiest day ever
