Airports expect numerous flight cancellations

Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn airports are expecting numerous flight cancellations due to a warning strike in passenger control on Monday. “A large part of the planned flights will probably have to be canceled by the airlines,” said Düsseldorf Airport on Sunday on its website. “Extensive flight cancellations are to be expected,” said Cologne/Bonn Airport.

The airports called on passengers to get information early. “Even if your flight takes place, significant delays in passenger checks are to be expected,” emphasized Düsseldorf Airport and called for hand luggage to be reduced to a minimum in order to speed up the checks.

The Verdi union has called for the all-day warning strike by security personnel. In doing so, she wants to emphasize her demands for higher wages for security forces at commercial airports in the ongoing collective bargaining dispute. Strikes are also planned in Berlin, Bremen, Hanover and Leipzig. In the collective bargaining dispute, the union is negotiating with the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) on a new collective agreement for around 25,000 security forces nationwide. Both sides want to meet on March 16th and 17th in Berlin for further negotiations.

Around 290 arrivals and departures with around 24,700 passengers are planned at Düsseldorf Airport on Monday. At Cologne/Bonn Airport, 136 passenger flights with around 14,000 passengers are scheduled for Monday.
