JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The general chairman of the Indonesian Aviation Service User Association (Apjapi) Alvin Lie highlighted the Airline Passenger Service (PJP2U) or airport tax went up suddenly.
Alvin regrets the increase airport tax happened suddenly without any socialization like what the government had done.
“This (airport tax naik) does not exist (socialization), some have been implemented since June 2022 and airport tax increase This is not half-hearted in general, 20-40 percent,” said Alvin when contacted by Kompas.com, Friday (15/7/2022).

Alvin said, the impact of the increase airport tax will be felt directly by air transportation service users, because flight ticket price will be more expensive. Whereas previously the price of airline tickets was expensive because of the impact of the increase in the price of avtur fuel.
“So that ticket prices also go up, even airlines that operate propeller planes have stopped some of their routes, because they are no longer able to serve at the maximum price, they still lose,” he said.
Alvin said, the government should be able to control it airport tax amid rising avtur fuel prices.
He gave an example, the government can bear some of airport tax as was done last year to maintain the air transport industry.
“Actually, if the government wants to maintain the air transportation industry, it can still be done surviveFor example, the 11 percent VAT is temporarily absorbed by the government first so that the price increase is not too high, I’m worried that if it goes up, the market is not strong enough to pay, it’s beyond the market’s purchasing power,” he said.
