In order to be able to prepare better for emergencies, the airport fire brigades of Stuttgart, Hanover and Bremen received a new fire simulation system on Tuesday. Emergency services must learn how to put out fires in training and practice regularly thereafter.
Up to now, firefighters have had to go to special providers for refresher courses or rent mobile systems. Together with the airports of Bremen and Hanover, the airport has therefore decided to purchase its own system, it was said at the presentation in Stuttgart. The system is now used by all three airports and has cost around two million euros.
The fire simulation system consists of eight containers, which can be disassembled in Bremen or Hanover and put together should simulate an airplane. This includes engines and cabins.

According to the spokeswoman, this allows for various fire scenarios to be practiced. Firefighters also practice rescuing people. “The fire is fueled with propane for environmental reasons.”
Erfurt relies on rental systems
Meanwhile, Erfurt Airport is practicing on a new rented fire simulator. In addition to the basic course “Firefighting aviation for regional airports”, the so-called “refresher training” also takes place, according to a press release.

The professional firefighters of Erfurt also took part in the public training of the airport fire brigade on the mobile aircraft fire simulator of ARFF-Services (“Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting”), as they are also called in the event of major events at the airport. The presentation in Erfurt was the start of the operational activity of the new training center in Leipzig. He wants to offer the device throughout Europe.
National and international authorities require regular training. The courses offered in firefighting and aircraft recovery correspond to the national and international guidelines of ICAO and EASA.
