The latest beta version of the Apple AirPods Profirmware shows the arrival of some nice features in iOS 15. Once the update comes out, which will likely be in September, AirPods Pro users will get a host of new features. One of these is Conversation Boost, which can help people with hearing impairments.
Conversation Boost works like a reverse noise cancellation. The feature takes advantage of the microphones in the AirPods to boost the call volumes for those with mild hearing impairments.
In addition, previous updates to the iOS 15 beta firmware state that the AirPods Pro will support improvements to FaceTime’s audio. This includes features that reduce ambient noise and bring Spatial Audio, making conversations sound clearer. Spatial Audio is Apple’s proprietary 3D audio technology and should make FaceTime calls feel more like real conversations.
For now, the feature is only available to developers who are part of the AirPods Pro developer beta. So we will have to wait a little longer before we can get started with it ourselves. We do expect iOS 15 to be released in September, so it won’t be that long.
Don’t just download the Airpods Pro developer beta
To officially download the latest beta firmware, you need to sign up for a developer account and then go to the Apple Developer-website go on your iPhone. With this you can download the update for your AirPods Pro.
This all means that most of us will have to wait a little longer for the official launch of iOS 15. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Developer betas tend to be much less stable than public betas and can cause problems that outweigh the new features that you may be able to work with.
In addition, you cannot switch the beta firmware back to an official version after installation. This means that you are stuck with all beta bugs up to the public release of iOS 15. In addition, we do not recommend that you look for ways to circumvent all these restrictions. Users who work without authorization can make their smartphones unusable and immediately put them out of warranty.
As we mentioned, we do expect iOS 15 to be released in September. That is not that long anymore, but we are already very curious about the improvements that we will get on our AirPods Pro.
