The company touts a 2 times more powerful noise cancellation system.
Apple released its latest ad for its popular headphones AirPods Pro 2 with a one-minute commercial recorded in Buenos Aires. The images, taken in the Obelisk area, have the names of the streets edited but allow us to see the Buenos Aires heart
The commercial tries to show how well wireless headphones block out external sounds, with improved active noise cancellation.
The piece is called “Quiet the noise” and was shared on his YouTube channel, focused on the improvement in noise cancellation compared to the original AirPods Pro.
The feature isn’t new (or changed much), but Apple is highlighting it as it’s a core feature of the super-popular headphones. And it does so with a commercial that, in addition to being quite creative and referring to the suspension of the outside world when this system is activated, has the particularity of taking place in the downtown of Buenos Aires.
Along with 2x better active noise cancellation, AirPods Pro 2 feature an improved charging case with lanyard loop, speakerphone and Find My tracking, plus adaptive transparency, Bluetooth 5.3, H2 chip and more.
Noise cancelling: how it works
Noise Canceling technology is a way to reduce outside noise that can interfere with listening to sounds through headphones.
Devices with this technology have a built-in microphone that generates sound waves opposite to ambient noise to neutralize it.
There are two types of noise cancellation: passive and active. The passive uses acoustic insulators that block some noise, while the active uses electronic circuitry that detects and eliminates noise.
This system has its origins in the 1980s, when the military began to develop systems to protect aircraft and tank pilots from noise. In 1989, Bose introduced the “Series I Aviation Headset”, which became the first commercially available headset. They included a noise canceling function and were powered by NiCad batteries (with an autonomy of 8 hours) or by aircraft power.
In 2000 appeared the Bose QuietComfort, with the first massive reach, which had been introduced in 1999 on American Airlines for commercial flight passengers. Since then, many other brands have developed their own headphone models with this technology.
The first AirPods were introduced in 2016 and released in December of that year. They were wireless style headphones in-ear that connected via Bluetooth.
They had support for SiriApple’s digital assistant, and a physical user interface that allowed you to control playback with touches and also included a W1 chip that made it easy to connect with other Apple devices.
