Thus the Big Apple Police Department (the NYPD Crime Stoppers) recently warned users, multiplying calls for witnesses on Twitter. Indeed, they note an upsurge in thefts of headphones from the Apple.
They describe a identical modus operandi and quite muscular. A man spots his careless victim, immersed in his spatial audio universe. He approaches her and snatches her AirPods Max, giving them to an accomplice on a scooter, who quickly flees each time!

With this scenario, law enforcement recorded 21 thefts, between January 28 and February 18, including 8 for the single day of February 18 (but also 5 flights on February 8 and 3 on February 9). According to video surveillance recordings, the police are looking for four suspects, well organized in a specific geographical area.
The latter would operate not far from Washington Square Park, right in Greenwich Village. Also the investigation area would extend between the trendy district of Tribeca and Morningside Heights, just north of Central Park, including Chelsea, SoHo, West Village, East Village, Gramercy, Kips Bay, Midtown or Upper East Side. If the thefts are carried out with violence, very fortunately for the time being, there are currently no injuries.
