‘Airplane mode’: New disconnection law applied in Australia

That’s why Australian employees can now ignore these and other intrusions into their home life thanks to a new law. «right to disconnect»which is designed for stop work emails and calls from entering their personal lives.

The new rule means that employees cannot, in most cases, be punished for refusing to read or respond to their employers’ contacts outside of working hours.

Supporters say the law gives workers the confidence to confront the constant invasion of their personal lives by emails, texts and work calls, a trend that has accelerated since the Covid-19 pandemic upended the divide between home and work.
