Sitting quietly for hours is the most unpleasant part of the journey to vacation for most airline passengers. The time is usually passed by reading, playing video games or watching films and series. When in-flight entertainment is not offered on board, travelers also rely on their own smartphone to view content. This can get tiring – where is the best place to put your cell phone without it constantly falling over and you don’t always have to hold it in your hand? A TikTok tip could help here.
Building a cell phone holder on a plane – a trick that will amaze you
“I thought everyone knew this little cell phone trick for traveling, but everyone sitting around us was pretty impressed when we used it,” the user wrote the simple as an explanation for her short video on the platform. In the 14-second clip, a man can be seen using his plane ticket to build a holder for his smartphone.
Here’s how it works: He folds his plane ticket in half and tucks it in half behind the folding table that is used to eat meals or hold drinks. He uses the locking mechanism on the folding table to attach the ticket. Then he picks up his smartphone, removes the cell phone case a little so that there is a small gap and pushes the remaining half of the plane ticket into it. He then presses the case firmly back onto the cell phone so that the ticket is trapped and the device remains attached to it. And he already has a holder for his smartphone that ensures that it cannot accidentally fall down.

“Brilliant idea”: Reactions to the airplane cell phone hack
The video was posted in December 2023 and has since been viewed over 27.3 million times. In the comments, some users are amazed at the trick and describe it as “smart,” among other things. Here are a few more reactions:

Of course, there are also critical voices who note that hardly anyone uses a paper ticket these days. Air travelers often only use QR codes for boarding. However, there is usually still the option of having a ticket printed at the airport. And if you want to try the trick, you can probably use another, sturdy paper for it – otherwise it can quickly happen that the smartphone falls to the ground or the paper tears. “Tried it – the boarding pass was torn and my cell phone fell,” writes one user, for example. However, he apparently owns a Nokia – also known as a “brick”, as another user says.
