Airlines continue to extend the ban on their flights to and from Lebanon in anticipation of a response from Iran or Hezbollah to the Israeli assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and party leader Fouad Shukr.
As the implementation time of the expected response is unclear, Air France and Transavia announced that flights to Beirut would be suspended until Sunday, August 11 inclusive, after a previous extension announced by both companies on Tuesday, August 6, to Thursday, August 8, “due to the geopolitical situation.”
Meanwhile, Middle East Airlines announced that “its flights for the period from August 9 to 13 will remain on schedule, except for some flights that have been changed, for reasons technical related to the distribution of insurance risks on flights between Lebanon and abroad.”
It should be noted that due to the security situation in Lebanon and the possibility of a military response, several embassies announced their intention to evacuate their citizens from Lebanon, and ‘ they asked them to leave immediately. (See cities).
