It’s been exactly three weeks since Emirates Airlines announced a new flight class. Premium Economy has so far been missing from the offer of Middle Eastern airlines. The bar on board the Airbus A380, which previously operated in Business Class on the Prague-Dubai route, is legendary in certain circles of travelers. And although basic economy class tickets are considered a decent standard at Emirates, airlines have announced a new intermediate class, albeit on a limited number of flights so far.

Emirates launches a new type of cabin from August 1, 2022, but at least for the time being, don’t look forward to it. They will be in A380 aircraft (which does not currently fly to Prague and its return to the route with Dubai is still uncertain), and only on certain routes. At the moment on flights to London, Paris, Sydney and at the end of the year also to the New Zealand city of Christchurch.

It should be added that, according to Emirates, Premium Economy is a bit like Business Class at many other airlines, which can be due to the wood paneling or extra wide seats. It is possible to book tickets to this class from June 1, so we could at least see where the new price class is located. The imaginary tongue of the scales between the price of an economy and business class ticket leans more towards the cheaper variant, especially for longer flights.

KLM bets on better food and seating
However, the Emirates are not the only ones to come up with this modification on board aircraft. Royal Dutch Airlines KLM announced the same news during the Dutch Open golf tournament, which culminated this Sunday. Only this class is not called the classic Premium Economy, but Premium Comfort. Probably because the cabin is perceived as a separate category, and not just as a fragrant Economy.

And there are really many changes compared to the traditional economy class. More legroom, the seat can be folded down a bit more, a larger screen in the seat in front of you, in addition to the USB socket, also the traditional and, last but not least, better food and power than basic air class passengers. The possibility of more luggage may not be appreciated by everyone, but especially after shopping at a holiday destination, luggage can also come in handy.

The first aircraft equipped with the Premium Comfort class will fly on routes to North America. However, according to KLM, KLM expects that passengers will be able to book a Premium Comfort class in a larger number of destinations in about two months.
