Almost 1,600 employees of the Scandinavian airline SAS in Denmark had their termination in the mailbox on Monday, according to an agency report. The Danish news agency Ritzau reported that these are mainly pilots, cabin personnel and employees in the airport terminals. The airline confirmed the numbers.
SAS suffered severe losses in the wake of the corona crisis and already announced in April that it would almost halve its workforce by up to 5,000 jobs. In addition to the Danish, the Swedish and Norwegian employees are also affected.
“The corona crisis hit SAS with such force that we are now fighting for our survival,” said press spokeswoman Sille Beck-Hansen in a written comment. “If the demand increases again, we hope to see the employees again at SAS.” SAS expects demand for air travel to return to normal in 2022.
