Airline Passenger Rights: Compensation, Information, Assistance, and Asylum

Right to compensation?

If the airline cancels a flight or there is a delay of more than three hours, you as a passenger are entitled to compensation in addition to the refunded ticket. This extra compensation is between 250 and 600 euros, depending on the length of the journey, and you only receive if your flight is canceled less than 14 days in advance.

In addition, you are also entitled to:

Information. The airline must inform you in writing. This can be done by email, text message or even a push message. The rules for the compensation and assistance to which you are entitled must also be clearly stated together with the details of the authority that checks the rules.

Assistance. You have the right to choose another flight (or return flight) as soon as possible. You can also opt for a refund of the ticket within 7 days, if the journey has become useless due to the delay.

Assylum. The airline must provide you with refreshments and meals. If necessary, the company must also offer accommodation and transfers. You are also entitled to two free telephone calls (or telexes, faxes, e-mails) pending a later flight.
