Airline employees smuggled iPhones into Russia | NOW

Employees and former employees of the airline Aeroflot Airlines have smuggled 50 million dollars (42.4 million euros) worth of electronics to Russia. That appears from research from the US authorities.

Ten people have been charged as a result of the investigation. Eight of them are detained, two are on the run. The visas for the United States have been revoked for 113 Aeroflot employees.

The employees are suspected of smuggling iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches to Russia, among other things. The equipment was found in employee luggage during an inspection. Much of the electronics had been stolen, according to US law enforcement.

One of the suspects took nine suitcases on board in October that contained 235 Apple products. The estimated value is $ 250,000. During a house search, many electronic items were also found and 600,000 dollars in cash.

It is not known which punishments the suspects face. It is also unclear when the case will be handled.
