FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Golkar Party Chairman Airlangga Hartarto congratulated the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD after waiting five years to become a candidate for vice president (cawapres).
“Congratulations to Mas Ganjar and Pak Mahfud. Incidentally, Pak Mahfud is my colleague in the cabinet, and the wait for Pak Mahfud has been five years, so congratulations,” said Airlangga at the Golkar DPP office, Jakarta, Wednesday evening.
This was conveyed by Airlangga after Mahfud MD, who was officially announced as the running mate for Ganjar Pranowo in the presidential election (2024 presidential election).
Airlangga was reluctant to name Ganjar-Mahfud as rivals for presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, before the Advanced Indonesia Coalition registered with the General Election Commission (KPU).
“If it’s a competition issue, we’ll discuss it later after registration,” he said.
Previously, the General Chairperson of the PDI-P DPP Megawati Soekarnoputri announced Mahfud MD as the vice presidential candidate (cawapres) who would accompany Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) contest.
“Today, Wednesday 18 October 2023, I have firmly decided that I will make a decision for everyone, I am aiming for the greatest interests of the people, nation and state by saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim. The vice presidential candidate chosen by PDIP who will accompany Ganjar Pranowo is Prof. Dr. Mahfud MD,” said Megawati at the PDIP DPP Office, Jakarta, Wednesday.
The Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD pair is supported by political parties namely PDI Perjuangan, United Development Party (PPP), People’s Conscience Party (Hanura) and Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo). (ant)
