The mediation between the aircraft technicians and NHO did not lead to success, and was terminated at 03.50 without result, the Ombudsman writes on his website.

The broker stated that the parties were so far apart that there was no basis for submitting a proposal that could be expected to be recommended by both parties.

Thus, there will be an air strike from Saturday morning, in the middle of the high season for flights.

Torbjørn Lothe, CEO of the employers’ organization NHO Luftfart, confirms to VG that the mediation has been broken.

– It is very disappointing that there will be a conflict out of this here. We experience that the demands that have been put on the table are far above what other groups in society have negotiated, Lothe says to VG on Saturday night.

– Stretched us as far as possible

Leader Jan Skogseth for the employee organization Norsk Flytekniker Organisasjon (NFO) has not yet responded to VG’s inquiries.

But in a press release he writes:

– NHO Aviation operates union crushing. Functions and positions that lie, and have always been under NFO’s scope, NHO wants to transfer to other agreements. This can hardly be described in any other way than as union crushing.

According to Lothe in NHO Aviation NFO demanded NOK 60 more per hour, which according to NHO’s calculations corresponds to between 17 and 18 percent wage growth.

– This is a group with a relatively high wage level. It is a completely unreasonable claim for which there is no basis. There is nothing to indicate that we can meet that type of requirement in this year’s wage settlement.

– But could you not stretch further?

– We have stretched ourselves as far as possible for even better conditions for this group, but it did not work out. The distance has been very great.

– What would have been a realistic requirement then?

– There was an offer on the table before the mediation, which was at the same level as other groups received in the wage settlement this year. We are very surprised by the enormous distance. I have been doing this for several years and have never experienced anything like it, says Lothe.

Refers to poor working hours

The parties met at the Ombudsman on Friday at 10 am and continued the mediation well into overtime night to Saturday.

Earlier Friday, NFO leader Jan Skogseth said TV 2 that the parties were far apart, and that the likelihood of a strike was imminent.

In the press release on Saturday night, Skogseth writes that the aviation technician profession requires a minimum of seven years of education, and that the salary has been under pressure “as long as the profession is no longer competitive”.

He further writes that the four schools in Norway for the subject no longer have full classes and that the Armed Forces has announced that they need up to 300 aircraft technicians in the next five years, but that there are only around 400 aircraft technicians in all of Norway.

Covid-19 made the airlines lay off and laid off many of the youngest aircraft technicians in the autumn of 2020. Now that the desire to travel is picking up a bit and the airlines again need their services, they say no to coming back. Virtually none of those fired have returned. Why should they return to a profession that pays less and you have to work nights, weekends and holidays? writes Skogseth before adding:

– We are in a situation where it is unacceptable to have one salary supplements such as the front subjects. The aviation technician profession must have a salary increase! Now!

The big three are affected by the strike

Both Norwegian, SAS and Widerøe will be affected by a possible strike, and more departures will be canceled.

Initially, a resignation was announced for 31 aircraft technicians.

From 20 June, the strike will escalate. Then 75 new members will be taken out on strike, which corresponds to around a quarter of the aircraft technicians.

Press contact Silje Glorvigen in Norwegian says customers do not need to do anything yet.

– Those who may be affected will be contacted by us. Our website is also continuously updated with relevant and updated information.

Glorvigen does not currently have an overview of which Norwegian flights are affected.

VG has not yet received a response from SAS. Widerøe’s press service is closed.

Press contact Ylva Celius Trulsen in Avinor says that travelers must deal with their airline with a view to delays or cancellations. Avinor does not currently have an overview of which flights are affected.

Trulsen also says that the airlines must assess the consequences for their own operations.
