Aircraft fly over Stockholm back and forth – here is the explanation

The propeller plane took off from Jönköping earlier in the evening and then flew over Stockholm.

Since the 21st century, it has flown back and forth – from Ekerö in the west to Kummelnäs in Nacka in the east – and combed Stockholm in horizontal lines from Östermalm in the north to Årsta in the south.

The plane stays at an altitude of about 1,000 meters.

– It looks very strange, it has flown back and forth for an hour now, says a Södermalmsbo.

“They do such inspections on an ongoing basis”

The plane has also attracted attention in local Facebook groups.

– It is a district heating inspection. I talked to the shift manager at Stockholm’s control center and they do such inspections on an ongoing basis. So it is a controlled flight at a fairly low altitude, says Cecilia Bengtström, an official on standby at the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration.
