According to FlightAware, the Airbus A350 was flying over Israel when it suddenly changed course back to London.
According to the BBC, sirens sounded in Tel Aviv as the plane approached, so the pilot steered the plane back to London.
There were rockets flying around Tel Aviv at the time, but they were not a direct threat to the plane.
A flight from London to Tel Aviv usually takes around 5 hours, but Wednesday’s BA165 passengers were on board for nearly ten hours when the plane returned to London.
Shortly after landing, British Airways announced it was suspending all flights to Tel Aviv until Saturday.
