Airbnb will block its services in Russia and Belarus, Hermès will close deals

Airbnb has about 100,000 accommodation offers in Russia and Belarus, according to marketing company AirDNA. “We will block calendars from accepting further reservations in any of the countries, until further notice,” a company spokesman said.

Airbnb expressed its support for Ukraine earlier when it abolished fees for accommodation providers in Ukraine this week. The company said that people now often book accommodation in Ukraine, even though they do not intend to go there, just to financially support the local population after the attack by Russian troops.

The luxury fashion Hermès also ends

French luxury goods manufacturer Hermès International said on Friday that it was suspending operations in Russia. It will also close three of its stores, including the one in Moscow’s famous GUM department store on Red Square.

“Given the current situation in the LVMH region, it regrets to close its stores in Russia from March 6,” a spokesman for the company, which covers about 70 brands, including Moët & Chandon champagne, Hennessy cognac and Marc Jacobs fashion brands, told AFP. Fendi, Kenzo and Bulgari.

LVMH has 3,500 employees in Russia. The Chanel brand will also close all its 17 boutiques in Russia, and it will not deliver goods from its e-shops to Russia.

This week, a number of American and European companies announced the suspension of sales in Russia, including the technology giant Apple, the motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson, the clothing chain H&M and the furniture brand IKEA. On Friday, the American software giant Microsoft also decided to suspend the sale of its products and services in Russia.
