The Airbnb lodging platform will extend a program throughout the country to professionalize tourism entrepreneurs from different communities in Mexico. The company’s project has already trained 53 entrepreneurs from Campeche and Michoacán in 2023, while it will soon add people from Jalisco, Colima and Nayarit.
“It seeks to empower local entrepreneurs to promote economic well-being, safeguard the cultural heritage of their communities and contribute to social well-being,” reads the project description.
The Airbnb Academy teaching begins with a session where attendees learn fundamental principles of lodging, responsible tourism practices, marketing strategies, and the integration of technology into their businesses.
Students can then enrich their knowledge and skills with access to on-demand resources, including articles, engaging case studies, and practical tutorials that they can consume at their own pace.
According to Airbnb, the significance of tourism training lies in the fact that Airbnb guests alone contribute up to 3.1% of the tourist activity in Mexico in a year only with their consumption in local businesses. Therefore, in addition to seeking to refine the services offered by local entrepreneurs, Airbnb will generate collaboration networks between communities.
As reported REPORTUR.mxAfter learning the latest statistics that show the increase in vacation rentals in Cancun, Jesús Almaguer, president of the Hotel Association of Cancún, Puerto Morelos & Isla Mujeres, denounced the unfair competition of these platforms to the detriment of the sector.
