New York, Nov 7 (EFE).- The tourist rental company Airbnb announced this Thursday an accumulated net profit of 2,187 million dollars between January and October, 57% less year-on-year, while investing in international markets.

In the most recent quarter, the company had a profit of 1,368 million, a reduction of 69% year-on-year that it attributed to tax issues that favored it last year, and income of 3,732 million, 10% more.

Airbnb, however, highlighted that in this period it has registered its highest number of “nights and experiences” reservations to date, 122.8 million, with great growth in the Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions.

The company said in a statement that its priorities in the quarter have been to make hosting easier and popular, improve the platform and quality of hosting, and expand its presence outside the United States.

In that sense, costs have grown by 16% in the quarter, with the largest expenditure items on product development and marketing, the latter particularly due to “investment in global markets,” the note details.

Airbnb launched this October ‘Co-host network’, a network of some 10,000 hosts in 10 countries – including Mexico, Spain and Brazil – who offer to be hired to manage other tourist accommodations.

Likewise, it said that it has eliminated 300,000 accommodations from its platform since last year for not meeting its quality standards and that it now has about 8 million.

“We will remain focused on accelerating growth as we prepare Airbnb’s next chapter, which will take us beyond accommodations. You will see more next year,” the note indicates.

The results were published at the close of Wall Street and had a mixed reception in electronic operations, as the shares first shot up 10% and after a couple of hours fell 4%. EFE
