Airbnb has announced that it bans parties or events in homes of its platform to avoid contagion by coronavirus. Besides, also will limit the capacity of guests to a maximum of 16 people by property. These measures will remain in operation indefinitely until further notice.
Airbnb notes that “16 is not a magic number, and that problems can occur with groups of any size.” Therefore, he wants to make it clear that with this measure he does not approve smaller meetings, and that all members of the community are expected to comply with local restrictions. The limitation to a maximum of 16 people is one more measure, among many designed to prevent attempts to use an accommodation advertised on the Airbnb platform for a party. Airbnb will continue to enforce the party ban on groups of any size, and will take action against guests and hosts if complaints are received from neighbors.
“Some have chosen to move the behavior of bars and clubs to homes, sometimes rented through our platform. We believe that such conduct is incredibly irresponsible. We do not want that type of business, and anyone who engages in or allows such behavior does not belong to our platform, “the company said in a statement.
Unauthorized parties have always been prohibited in accommodations advertised on the Airbnb platform. In fact, 73% of advertised accommodations worldwide already prohibit parties in the ‘House Rules’ stipulated in their description, and the vast majority of guests respect these rules and their neighbors. Hosts have traditionally been allowed, at their own discretion, to authorize small parties (such as birthday parties) if they were suitable for their home and neighborhood.
The company has warned that there will be “drastic consequences” for hosts or guests who try to circumvent these new rules, which can range from bans within the community to even legal action.
