Since Christmas, when the new rules for entering Latvia came into force, airBaltic has not had any problematic situations with passengers before boarding planes bound for Riga. AirBaltic TV3 News revealed that finding a solution for passengers who do not have a negative Covid-19 test.
At present, passengers entering Latvia from eight countries are required to provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test result, regardless of the existence of an interoperable disease or vaccination certificate.
The national airline airBaltic has been actively informing passengers about the new procedure when arriving in Latvia, so in the past days there has not been a single case when a passenger would arrive on a flight to Latvia without the necessary confirmation of the test, and thus they would be denied boarding.
Didzis Rudmanis, an airBaltic spokesman, told the Skaties.lv portal that the airline has shown acceptance to those passengers who failed to take the Covid-19 test abroad on December 24 and also during the Christmas holidays.
In some cases, when passengers have contacted the company stating that they are no longer able to take the test, we have changed the flight dates free of charge on the part of airBaltic. The flight date can be changed only before departure and in such situations it is possible to do so until December 31, ”explained Rudmanis.

The amendments to the Emergency Ordinance approved by the government stipulate that from December 24 to January 11, 2022, immigrants from Latvia from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, Germany and Russia must take the Covid-19 test. The negative result of the test must be presented before boarding the vehicle for a trip to Latvia.
