In October 2021, the Latvian airline airBaltic celebrates its 26th anniversary since the start of commercial operations.
Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, said: “Since the start of the pandemic, airBaltic has undergone a major transformation, accelerating the changes needed for future growth. The airline was established in the early autumn of 1995, when the state of Latvia and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) agreed to establish a joint venture. On October 1 of the same year, airBaltic operated the first commercial flight from Riga to Stockholm with a SAAB 340 aircraft. In October 1995, airBaltic carried 4,400 passengers and operated 209 flights. Over the past 26 years, airBaltic has carried a total of more than 46 million passengers and operated more than 780,000 flights.
AirBaltic currently has 31 Airbus A220-300 aircraft in its fleet, making airBaltic the world’s largest operator of this type. The airline connects the Baltic region with direct flights on more than 90 routes. The company currently employs more than 1,366 professionals.
