SERAMBINEWS.COM, BANDA ACEH – Low cost airline, AirAsia, flew its first flight to Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport (SIM) Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar, Friday (3/6/2022) afternoon.
AirAsia will open flights on the SIM Airport route – Kualanamu Airport, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra three times a week, namely Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
The plane landed at SIM Airport at 15:45 WIB and took off again at 16:10 WIB.
On the inaugural flight from Kualanamu Airport, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra to Aceh, the CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, Veranita Yosephine and the ranks of Air Asia Indonesia joined.
They were greeted by the Head of the Aceh Transportation Service, T Faisal, by draping an Aceh motif sash.
As Serambinews.com observed at the airport, the arrival of the red-patterned plane was greeted with the “Water Salute” tradition.

“Water Salute” is a common tradition at airports when welcoming a new plane, where two firefighters spray water in the air, right above the plane that is about to enter from the runway to the apron.
The AirAsia plane received this welcome because it was its first arrival to Aceh after 2 years of the pandemic.
