“Today, the air quality over Sofia is not as bad as it was yesterday. At the moment, the levels of fine particulate matter (PM) are within the norm almost everywhere. The better weather conditions, the lifting of the fog, the wind contribute to the entry of clean air over the city “. Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev wrote this on his personal Facebook profile.
Dr. Simidchiev: Pollution levels in our country do not require walking with gas masks
“Yesterday we urged people to use public transport to reduce the impact of one of the main polluters – cars. However, the data shows that at night the level of particulate matter in many places was above the norm. This is the result of the use of solid fuels and especially burning oils and tires,” he says.
Third day in a row: Dangerously dirty air in 11 cities in the country
“And today, the Metropolitan Inspectorate will continue to inspect sites around the city in order to reduce violations as much as possible. Since the beginning of December, more than 450 inspections of sites, potential sources of atmospheric air pollution, have been carried out. We have drawn up 65 acts and fines with slips. Just yesterday the inspections were 87. For comparison, last year for the period December 1-20, 44 inspections were carried out and 32 reports were drawn up, and in 2021, respectively, 30 inspections and 16 reports,” Terziev specifies.
Sofia dawned with dangerously dirty air
“Our focus is on polluters such as car repair shops, tire change stations, workshops and construction sites. The most common violations are for unregulated burning and pollution from construction sites such as transport of waste without mats, street pollution from trucks with mud on tires and others,” the mayor also wrote.
