Air Quality Alert in Effect for New York City Due to Canadian Wildfires

NEW YORK — If you’re having trouble breathing, it may be best to stay indoors for the next few days because air conditions won’t be good until Wednesday.

There was a noticeable haze of smoke over New York City on Tuesday, coming from the Nova Scotia wildfires burning in Canada. That haze and expected elevated ozone levels prompted an air quality alert through Wednesday night for part of the area. Check the latest weather alerts for your neighborhood here.

The hazy sun will continue on Wednesday as a plume of smoke continues to billow from the Canadian wildfires with a poor air quality alert in effect for New Jersey due to high concentrations of smoke in the air.

Temperatures will warm up Wednesday afternoon reaching the 80s inland and the 70s in the metropolitan area while staying cooler along the coast. The next couple of days will get even warmer and feel like the 90s by Friday afternoon before a frontal system approaches with a chance of a few scattered thunderstorms Friday night.

Temperatures will drop back into the 70s over our weekend and any outdoor plans on Saturday might require an umbrella.

We could see more chances of rain in the Tuesday-Wednesday time frame of next week.
