The airline is preparing to offer for sale the fourth “longest flight in the world”, linking Auckland to New York. The ultra long-haul route will open on September 17.
Connecting New Zealand and New York non-stop will soon be possible. The New Zealand flag carrier is preparing to launch one of the world’s longest flights between Auckland and the Big Apple. In total, travelers will spend approximately 17 hours aboard a Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
From September 17, 2022, the company will operate 1 round trip per week with a departure from Auckland airport at 7:40 p.m. and an arrival at JFK 16 hours later. For the return flight, the journey will last 17 hours and 35 minutes, which ranks it directly in fourth place among the longest flights in the world.
Singapore-New York flight remains in the lead
However, that’s not enough to beat the Singapore Airlines route from Singapore to New York JFK, with a total of 18 hours of flight time. For its part, Qantas is preparing to reopen its line between Perth and London for a duration of 17 hours and 15 minutes. The company also plans to connect Sydney and London with a flight time of 19 hours! If this connection were to open, it would then become the longest road in the world.
The main challenges in its ultra-long-haul flights lie in issues related to fuel supply, the management of on-board personnel, particularly on the pilot side, while ensuring optimal comfort for passengers… Indeed, airlines must ensure that each parameter on board guarantees the health of travelers and their crew.
Towards a reopening of New Zealand
The Air New Zealand flight will offer 27 seats in Business Class, 33 in Premium Economy Class, 215 in Economy Class and 13 Economy “Skylayers” which offer seats that convert into a sofa bed for a more comfortable night flight.
After being closed for more than two years due to pandemic-related restrictions, the country recently announced a reopening for non-essential travel. New Zealand will first reopen, with no quarantine period required, to Australian visitors from April 12. Borders will then be opened to more international travelers from visa-exempt countries, including the United States, from May 1.
