(Beijing = Yonhap News) Correspondent Jeong Seong-jo = It is reported that China has authorized North Korean Air Koryo to operate flights between Pyongyang and Beijing three times a week.
According to Reuters on the 23rd, the Chinese Civil Aviation Authority announced on the same day that Air Koryo had approved the operation of the Pyongyang-Beijing route from March 26 to October 28 every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
However, Chinese airline Air China (Air China), which operated Pyongyang-Beijing flights with Air Koryo, has yet to respond to whether or not to resume flights to China, Chinese authorities said.
Air China has been unable to operate North Korea-China routes since North Korea closed its borders in January 2020 when Corona 19 was spreading.
Air Koryo landed a passenger plane at Beijing Capital Airport at 9:17 a.m. the day before Tuesday (Chinese time) in three years and seven months since the North Korea-China border was closed. The plane left for Pyongyang at 1:36 p.m. carrying North Koreans staying in China.
Previously, on the 16th of this month, North Korea indicated that it was preparing to open the border by transporting dozens of taekwondo athletes to depart for the Kazakhstan World Championships by bus through the Yalu River Railroad Bridge connecting Sinuiju and Dandong, China.
