The French company communicated on the innovations expected on its lines for the start of the school year. Regarding Pointe-à-Pitre, this is the opening of two direct lines, one to Montreal and the other to New York.
Air France is clearly positioning itself, from November 2021, on direct lines to North America. After more than two years of interruption, it will now be possible to travel to Montreal and New York, from the Pôle Caraïbes airport.
- As of November 23, 2021, two flights per week are scheduled to Montreal. Tuesdays and Saturdays with scheduled returns on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
- As of November 24, 2021, two weekly flights are scheduled to New York with scheduled returns on Thursdays and Sundays.
However, the company is not alone in this segment. For Canada, Air Canada and Air Transat continue to develop their routes, and JetBlue also remains positioned on the route to New York and should also begin (the opening of the line in 2020 was severely disrupted by the Covid pandemic. -19) its rotations in November 2021.
Despite a very constrained sector, the return of these lines is excellent news for Guadeloupe residents living in Canada and the United States. For more than a year, they have lived cut off from their territory because of the scarcity or even the stop of direct links to Pointe-à-Pitre. It is also a positive signal for local tourism which has relied heavily in recent years on this new clientele.
What travel conditions?
However, the pandemic has indeed changed the situation. Canada and the United States have considerably tightened the conditions for entry into their territory. For now, only people who are fully vaccinated, presenting a PCR test of less than 72 hours and whose trip meets one of the reasons identified as compelling by the government are allowed to stay in the country. These measures are valid since August and until further notice.
The United States has suspended the arrival on its territory of travelers from more than thirty countries including France. For all others, entry into the country is conditional on the presentation of a virological test of less than 72 hours and the acceptance of a quarantine, the duration of which varies from state to state.
But beware, vaccination is not totally to be ruled out. Indeed, inspired by the French sanitary pass, the mayor of New York validated, at the beginning of August, the establishment of a sanitary pass (at least one dose of vaccine) to access restaurants, performance halls and sports halls.
