Air France has the first A220 for flights around Europe, Prague is missing from the list of destinations for the new type

The new aircraft are to bring Air France more economical operation.

Air France has added the first of sixty ordered Airbus A220-300 aircraft to its fleet. The new machines will be used by the carrier mainly on routes across Europe, where they will replace the A318, A319 and partly also the A320.

The French carrier today introduced the first aircraft in Paris. It promises more economically and environmentally friendly flying from the aircraft: the cost per kilometer of flight and passenger is about a tenth lower, CO₂ emissions a fifth lower and noise a third lower. For the airline, this is a significant increase in comfort on European flights.

For Airbus, this is the largest European order for this aircraft model. Air France will deploy the aircraft with the arrival of the winter flight schedule on 31 November. Prague is still missing from the list of destinations to which it will fly with them. The first cities where the A220 Air France will fly will be Berlin, Barcelona, ​​Madrid, Milan and Venice. During the winter flight schedule, the aircraft is to be deployed to Bologna, Rome, Lisbon and Copenhagen.

For passengers, the deployment of a new type of aircraft will mean a change for the better, the A220 offers greater comfort, it is also quieter. The first aircraft is named Le Bourget, on the fuselage is a winged seahorse, a historical symbol of Air France. The aircraft will fly in a configuration for 148 passengers.

The Air France-KLM group is preparing according to Reuters news today purchase of up to 80 aircraft for the low-cost company Transavia, the choice of the aircraft type is finishing. Airline chief Benjamin Smith specified that the airline can buy up to 80 aircraft with options on another 60 to 80 aircraft. The carrier is negotiating with both Boeing and Airbus.
