Air disaster in São Paulo: A passenger plane crashes before reaching its destination

On Friday, a passenger plane with 62 people crashed near São Paulo (Brazil), the New York Times reports. A local official said that no one survived the plane crash.

VoePass Airlines said that Flight 2283, which departed from Cascavel, Brazil, crashed in the Brazilian city of Vinhedo, near Sao Paulo, where the plane was expected to land.

The airline confirmed that the plane with 58 passengers and four crew members was on its way to Sao Paulo International Airport when it crashed in the city of Vineda. The statement did not say what caused the accident.

At an event in southern Brazil, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked those present to stand and observe a moment of silence while he shared the news. He said that all the passengers and crew appeared to be dead, without explaining how the information was obtained.

Firefighters, military police and civil defense authority have sent teams to the site of the accident in Vinedu.

Brazil’s GloboNews television network showed images of a large area on fire in a residential area full of houses and smoke billowing from the plane’s fuselage. “GloboNews” also showed pictures of the plane spinning straight down.

The President of the State Edgars Rinkēvičs shared words of condolence on the microblogging site “X”. You can find out more about what happened here
