Air China announces that it will fly to Cuba twice a week – 2024-05-08 12:27:10

The airline Air China, which had announced flights between the capitals of the Asian country and Cuba starting this Mayhas given more details about these air operations, pointing out that they will take place twice a week and will have prices of around $1,300.

Through an official statement, the company indicated that flights between Havana and Beijing will begin on May 17, and that the $1,350 tickets will include carry-on luggage and a free check-in bag.

Zhang Xin, representative of the Asian country, told the official media Cubadebate that the price of the one-way flight will be $812, and this will also include hand luggage and a free check-in bag.

He also stated that direct flights to Havana will have an initial frequency of twice a week, but the airline hopes to be able to increase this number in the future.

“In the future we will focus on offering better and more convenient services to increase flights and freight services,” he declared.

It is important to remember that the Chinese airline began its operations in Cuba in 2015, but had to suspend them during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This resumption occurs in the midst of a serious economic crisis on the Island, so the regime seems to be betting on bringing more tourism to the country. In that sense, it is known that the government is focusing on “awakening interest in the Cuban destination and contributing to the recovery of the country’s tourism industry.”

According to the tourism advisor in Cuba for Asia, Elizabeth Vela, it is planned to work “on joint strategies with Chinese travel agencies and Cuban companies to promote tourism from China to the island.”

Vela points out that tourist products are being “designed” adapted “to the preferences of Chinese tourism,” with the aim of turning Cuba into a frequent destination for Asian visitors.

One of the steps taken for this was announced this weekend, when the Cuban government announced at the 42nd International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2024) the visa exemption for Chinese citizens with ordinary passports.

While the authorities insisted that both nations reached this agreement after considering that they would benefit from it, the gesture does not contemplate Cuban citizens, who are still required to have a visa to travel to China.
