Air Asia CEO Urges More International Airports in Indonesia for Tourism Growth

CEO of Capital A, the holding company Air Asia, Tony Fernandes hope that more airports in Indonesia serve international flights. According to him, Indonesia has many areas that have the potential to be visited by state tourists, apart from Bali and Labuan Bajo.

“I think tourism can be a very big contributor to the Indonesian economy. If you imagine what Bali has, it can be done in about seven or eight places in Indonesia,” Tony said on the sidelines of the Asean Investment 2023 event. in Jakarta, Monday (4/9).

“We think the world needs to see Indonesia. There are so many things to see in this amazing country,” he continued.

Currently, Indonesia has 32 international airports out of a total of 340 airports.

He said AirAsia was excited to make as much direct connectivity as possible and open routes like never before. For example AirAsia opens international flights to and from Silangit Airport, North Sumatra.

“We at AirAsia are very optimistic in developing tourism and logistics in Indonesia,” he said.

Tony said that currently AirAsia has 28 aircraft in Indonesia. In the next three years, this number is targeted to increase to 75 aircraft.

“So actually I this morning I spoke to my team to say we want to add more aircraft. So we want to increase to 75 aircraft,” he said.
