Air Algérie ready to operate a direct flight between Algiers and New York

The national airline Air Algérie says it is ready to strengthen its flights in anticipation of the summer season. According to the spokesman of the Algerian company, Amine Andaloussi, who spoke with the Gate7 site, the national company is ready to provide new services to France, in particular Bordeaux, Montpellier and Metz, but also new destinations, in Africa and the Americas.

If Amine Andaloussi mentioned Nigeria and Cameroon for Africa, he will also affirm Air Algérie’s desire to serve the United States directly. Therefore, Algerians settled in the USA could have at their disposal a direct flight to Algeria. Just as candidates for the american lottery who manage to complete the process will be able to make the trip non-stop in European countries or in Montreal.

“Before the Covid pandemic, we had drawn up a development plan that targeted Nigeria and Cameroon, in Africa, and the United States. It is up to us to implement it, since the conditions are met again,” the spokesperson for the national airline told the Gate 7 site. Amine Andaloussi will say no more. He will affirm later in the same interview that Air Algérie intends to acquire long-haul planes to serve distant destinations. Understand the United States and Canada, but also other destinations in Africa and Asia.

JF Kennedy Airport in New York is the most suitable

The spokesperson for the Algerian airline will not say which airport is targeted by Air Algérie in the United States, nor which American city will be connected to the Algerian capital. But it’s easy to guess that it’s New York’s John Fitzgerald Kennedy Airport (KJFK), for the simple reason that the Algerian community at Uncle Sam’s is concentrated on the east coast of the country; especially its northern part.

Many US Algerians in and around New York

Indeed, according to 2016 statistics, taken up by the Huffington Post, there are more than 30,000 Algerians in the United States, many of whom joined America in the 1960s. Among them, there are 10,000 nationals in New York and its neighborhoods, such as Queens, Astoria, Brooklyn and of course Manhattan.

Is this sufficient to create a direct air line between Algiers and JFK airport? It is clear that not, but it should also be known that the rest of the Algerians of the USA are in the bordering states of New York. Indeed, many Algerians unable to cope with the high cost of living in New York have chosen to settle in New Jersey, a hundred kilometers to the south.

They are thousands to live in New Jersey. They are also numerous to have settled in the neighboring state of Pennsylvania, more precisely in the city of Philadelphia, located approximately 150 kilometers southwest of New York City. It is all these data that encourage the choice of JFK airport in New York for a direct line between Algeria and the United States.
