Abidjan, August 25, 2024 (AIP) – The President of the Senate, Kandia Camara, implemented, on Saturday August 24, 2024 in Harlem (New York), Ivorians who live in the United States as the result of the Ivorian Diaspora Forum that will be held from November 12 to 14 in Yamoussoukro, reports an information note sent to the AIP.
This forum will take place under the theme “Attraction and means of support to the diaspora for the sustainable development of Côte d’Ivoire”.
In the company of Ambassador Tiémoko Moriko, permanent representative of Côte d’Ivoire to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Inza Camara, Consul General of Côte d’Ivoire in New York, as well as General Djouha Kéhi Edouard , the chairman of the Security and Defense Committee in the Senate, and several members of the senatorial administration, Ms. Camara encouraged Ivorians living in the United States to take part in this event.
“We want to give our colleagues abroad the opportunity to meet their counterparts from other regions of the world, as well as institutions and partners. This forum must be an opportunity for our relatives to be more involved in the development of our country,” suggested the President of the Senate.
She expressed the hope that this forum would allow her compatriots to participate more in the development of Côte d’Ivoire by taking place, carrying out projects, establishing partnerships and making themselves known. in a country that welcomes every day, investors and businessmen from all walks of life.
“We encourage them to invest in entrepreneurship in Ivory Coast or participate, for example, in civil service competitions that make it possible to gain experience that is sometimes rare in our country. They share with us the opinion that Côte d’Ivoire is right to engage in this development through urban renewal,” suggested the president of the upper house of the Ivorian parliament.
This exchange framework was also an opportunity for Kandia Camara to present the current situation of Côte d’Ivoire to Ivorians living in the United States, the tools put in place to return them to Côte d’Ivoire make it possible, in addition to the existing arrangements for their families and parents. More than 1,500,000 Ivorians live abroad.
The President of the Senate led a delegation to Chicago from August 19 to 22 for the 11th edition of the International Leaders Forum (ILF). On the forum side, she attended the Democratic Party convention at the United Center.
The missions of the Senate are to vote on laws, control government action, evaluate public policies, represent local authorities and protect the interests of Ivorians established outside Côte d’Ivoire.
