The open competition commission for the position of the director of Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music High School in the competition of eight candidates has chosen Ainars Šablovskis, the former head of the Study Department of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) and head of the Wind Instruments Department, as the most suitable, informed the Ministry of Culture.
“Eight candidates applied for the position of the director of Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music High School in the open competition. For the second round of the competition – the knowledge test – the commission nominated five candidates, of whom three candidates qualified for the in-depth interviews in the third round. Ainars Šablovskis proved himself as a development-oriented professional who has the experience and skills necessary for the new position and the challenges ahead – both in the areas of collective management and work organization, and the talents of a strong teacher and musician, ”said Dace Vilsone, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture. .
Šablovskis has gained the skills and work experience required for the new position in his long-term work at JVLMA, providing management of the University’s Study Department and Wind Instruments Department, and at the same time teaching saxophone at Pāvuls Jurjāns Music School, Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music High School and Jelgava Music College.
As a musician, Šablovskis has played in the professional ensembles of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra and the State Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga”.
Šablovskis graduated from JVLMA, obtaining professional bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music, as well as a professional qualification of saxophonist and saxophone teacher. He also studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm as part of an Erasmus exchange program.
