Ainara, an inclusive residence for elderly people with disabilities

These are 14 new social housing units. They are occupied by elderly people with disabilities and/or who have significant economic and social difficulties. It offers an alternative to the two existing options: home support, often with family carers, or accommodation in a specialized facility.

A risky bet

This project was carried out by a collective of associations, all confronted with this reality, Père Cestac Mission (MPC), ChrysalisAPF France disability et Epilepsy France. Within this collective, the MPC association played the role of project leader.

“It is a risky bet and many difficulties had to be faced. It took eighteen months of preparation”, indicates Gilles Garay, director of the MPC. The challenge is to allow the people who have been assigned these lodgings to gain as much autonomy as possible. This means offering them all the services they need.

The construction of this residence was part of a real estate project by the promoter Maneo, who sold part of it to the social landlord Habitat sud Atlantique, contracting station of Ainara.

In addition to the apartments, a common area was designed, in which the office of the coordinator in charge of supervising the whole is integrated. Four of the fourteen apartments have been assigned to young minors followed by the MPC but also to two European civic volunteers, whose mission is to guarantee the animation and cultural life of the residence.

Demographic evolution

“Everything was possible only thanks to the involvement of the various associations, the support that the municipality of Anglet has given to this very complex project and the true partnership that we have managed to forge with HSA. The departmental council also provides strong financial support,” says Gilles Garay.
