AIK’s winning streak broken – goalless in Mjällby

Several teams in the even Allsvenskan table top continue to register their interest in participating and competing for the Swedish Championship gold. Five straight Allsvenskan victories in recent times are sure papers that Bartosz Grzelak’s AIK is the strongest of them all.

Considering that the bottom team Mjällby was on Monday’s menu, the situation looked set for a sixth straight win, which was also what was required if AIK wanted to take back the league lead.

The match was still in his womb when Mjällby’s team captain David Löfquist pulled a free kick clockwise in goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt’s crossbar. Close, but only close, that AIK got a nightmare start to their stay in Blekinge.

Even though Löfquist’s free kick did not result in a home lead, it gave a signal of what awaited AIK at Strandvallen. 0-0 at the break, but in terms of play, Mjällby was the stronger team.

– The worst half of the season for us, AIK’s midfielder Alexander Milosevic told Discovery in a break interview.

– An even match, we invite them with our ball taps, said AIK’s coach Bartosz Grzelak to Discovery.

In the second half continued a playful Mjällby to put AIK in one worrying situation after another. The feeling was that it was a matter of time before the home team would tread their way through to a really sharp goal chance.

But the match clock ticked on without Mjällby coming close to scoring. Bartosz Grzelak tried to make a number of substitutions, but failed to get the right offensive cut on his AIK this evening.

The goalless match means that Djurgården, by virtue of a better goal difference than the second AIK, leads the Allsvenskan after three-fifths of the series.
