On Sunday, AIK finished with Ioannis Pittas from Apollon Limassol. The 27-year-old is described as a goal-dangerous target forward who, considering the price tag (a total package of around SEK 15 million), will step right into the black and yellow’s starting eleven as soon as possible.
Since Henning Berg took over as the new head coach in AIK, he has preferred to play with two forwards, where summer acquisition Dino Besirovic has been given since his arrival.
Pittas and Besirovic in a future two-man attack? It is not incredible. After Monday’s 1-0 victory against IK Sirius, the AIK coach gave his view on the latest new acquisition, as well as how it affects John Guidetti and Omar Faraj’s opportunities for playing time.
– We are happy to bring in Pittas. It is a good forward who has shown that he can score goals and he has qualities that we need in the team, Berg told Fotbollskanalen at the press conference afterwards.
– Then we’ll see how the forward line-up turns out. Who plays with him and how we do it, we’ll have to take a closer look at that in the future. But bringing in an experienced goalscorer is obviously good for us in our situation. We’re happy about that and I think it’s good for everyone in the squad, to bring in another player with quality who can help everyone and make the team better overall.
Against Sirius, John Guidetti, who was back from the start after the poke against Malmö FF last time, responded for a pale effort. After just over 60 minutes, he was replaced and then stepped off the field goalless again.
In addition, he did not get a single goal chance in the match.
– It depends on several things. There is often space around John because he attracts some attention, which is good for our other players. He works hard and contributes to the team, says Henning Berg.
The AIK coach continues:
– Of course he had more scoring chances against Varberg and Häcken, where he came close to scoring, than he did today. Especially against Varberg, he played a good match. It is important that John plays matches. He has had injury problems earlier this spring and hasn’t been training as much as everyone else, but now he can train every day and work on it which is good.
John Guidetti has scored a goal in the Allsvenskan this season.
