AIK’s men’s and women’s teams have started their 2024 pre-season.
And they did it in front of a sea of fireworks, cheers and pyrotechnics.
– Fantastic, the best in Sweden, simple, says Sotirios Papagiannopoulos on the inner plane, referring to the massive framing of the supporters.
It is an annual tradition at Skytteholms IP.
And the AIK fans, gathered both in a packed stand (3500 spectators) and outside the arena (about 1000 who did not enter), did not spare the powder this time either.
When AIK: men’s and women’s teams began their 2024 pre-season, aiming for the Allsvenskan and Women’s Allsvenskan series premieres, an unpredictable number of fireworks went off in the bitter January cold.
– You’ve been involved in it before, but it gets better and better every year, says AIK striker Adelisa Grabus in the interior.
The men’s team’s centre-back Sotirios Papagiannopoulos was happy that the pre-season had started.
– Great. Finally get to go out here and play and feel the ball.
Already tomorrow (Wednesday) AIK is going to warmer latitudes, namely to Portugal for a training camp.
– It will be nice with a little heat, says Papagiannopoulos.
Ellingsen: “You got match feeling”
“Sotte” has been involved in similar cases before. But for the new Norwegian acquisition Martin Ellingsen, this was something new.
– The atmosphere that was here today. I have not experienced that before, says the 28-year-old after his first training session with the club.
But you had heard about this beforehand?
– Yes, I have heard about it. So I knew what I was getting into. You got a feel for the match, it was fun. It triggers me a little extra, it did. It must be some away game in Europe that you have experienced this before. But every and every other week? I have never experienced that.

Guidetti trained separately
Someone who did not take part in the match drills but instead trained separately on the sidelines in the opening session, in gym shoes, was attacking star John Guidetti, 31.
On the way back from injury.
– He trains very hard. I hope to see him soon on the training field with everyone else, says coach Henning Berg on the pitch.
His teammate Papagiannopoulos is looking forward to playing with the striker on the pitch again in the future.
– John Guidetti hit some balls this year. He’ll be there soon.
Guidetti himself? He left training in a seemingly happy mood. However, uninterested in answering any questions from the assembled press corps.
– Merry Christmas, says the striker happily before he sneaks into the warmth of the dressing room.
