AIKB does not support Pernik, Elin Pelin, Svoge fee –

/ world today news/ AIKB did not participate in the meeting where a proposal was made to introduce a fee for entering Sofia for cars with non-Sofia registration. If we had been involved, we would have objected to such an idea on the spot.

This is stated in a letter of AIKB to the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, and to the media in connection with a proposal to introduce a fee for cars without capital registration entering the boundaries of Sofia. The Association of Industrial Capital in Bulgaria (AIKB) officially declares its disagreement with such a proposal.

First of all, the introduction of such a fee in practice is directed against labor mobility. From our point of view, employers’ organizations are the last ones who would have an interest in hindering labor mobility. Such an idea is unnatural for business.

Also, it is unnatural for businesses to come up with ideas for initiatives aimed at introducing new taxes and fees. It is no less important that the proposed proposal triggers only “local” sentiments “for and against” Sofia and the people of Sofia. (Quite naturally, this caused a stormy reaction, and the response from Perni was particularly eloquent – there they suggested that the vignette for Sofia residents should be paid at the traffic lights of Dragichevo).

Sofianci did not propose such an idea. Not all nationally representative employers’ organizations support and launch such a proposal. Even less can we impute such a proposal to the entire Sofia business – the truth is rather the opposite, and this is supported by what has been written on social networks in the last twenty-four hours, AIKB states.

Last but not least, the proposal, which was not well thought out and completely NOT consulted between the employers’ organizations, gave a certain category of Internet users the opportunity to, to put it mildly, spread negative sentiments against businesses and employers.

This is where we appeal to the mass media to distinguish between the propositions of individual employer organisations, companies or even individuals and the propositions of the whole business. As ‘whole’ business proposals, we could at best treat proposals which are supported by all nationally representative employers’ organisations.

Without in any way trying to educate the journalistic class, we simply ask that no wrong suggestions be created by the use of the full article in constructions of the type: “Pernik tax for cars in Sofia is offered by the business”. Once again, we will repeat that this is a proposal of a separate employer organization, and perhaps even of a separate company. With all our great respect for the participants in Mrs. Fandakova’s meeting with some business representatives, this is not “the business”, the AIKB emphasizes.

In conclusion, we also appeal to Ms. Yordanka Fandakova, in her capacity as Mayor of Sofia, to state clearly that we do NOT support the proposed proposal to introduce a “Pernik”, “Elin Pelin” or “Svoge” fee. We hope that the misunderstanding will not cause a wave of similar initiatives in other cities of the country.
